Scatec Solar has published its Sustainability Report for 2015

Oslo, May 3, 2016: Scatec Solar ASA (‘SSO’) published its 2015 Sustainability Report today at a Sustainability seminar hosted by the company. Climate and Environment Minister Mr. Vidar Helgesen addressed the seminar, along with members from the management team of Scatec Solar including CEO, Raymond Carlsen.

Speaking on ”Norway and the global green transformation”, Minister Helgesen emphasized the need for diversification from fossil-fuel based economies and lauded the efforts of entrepreneurial companies that created jobs, reduced carbon footprint and provided energy, without which economic prosperity cannot be achieved. He noted the growing worldwide trend of the decoupling of economic growth with environmental impact.

Job creation, local economic development and strong community relations are key to successful execution of projects, said CEO Carlsen. The strict implementation of Health, Safety, Environment and Governance standards ensured that solar plants built with even previously unemployed workers were completed safely and on time, even ahead of schedule in some instances, Roar Haugland, EVP Business and People Development pointed out.

Scatec Solar’s operating plants are estimated to avoid more than 700,000 tons of GHG this year, and this is set to increase to over 2 million tons by 2018 when more plants become operational. The carbon emissions avoided could actually be higher given that solar generated electricity now replaces fossil-fuelled power at peak times in several countries, emphasized Terje Osmundsen, Senior Vice President, Business Development.
